Introduction

This route was first run in May 2020. There’s a longer version starting and finishing at Lees Hall Pond which featured in Season 1 as Moss Valley and Back.

Mostly firm farm and woodland trails, with a few hundred metres of tarmac and a 1.2km climb up a stony track. The paths through the woods are beautiful, but can be rather muddy after heavy rain.

The route starts at the top of Lightwood Lane (the official start is the yellow grit bin on the corner of the access road to ‘Lightwood House’) and finishes where the public footpath emerges on to the pavement at the side of the dual carriageway.

Lightwood Lane is quite regularly used by lorries and large farm machinery so it’s essential to park considerately if driving there or, better yet, park elsewhere. (There’s a huge lay by a few hundred metres East around the ring road, next to Herdings Park).

Alternative route: Part of the original route has been closed, so Sean has come up with an alternative route which is described in detail below.

And for the Alternative Route…

Alternative Route

Part of a bridleway has been closed for repairs during our race window, so Sean has designed an acceptable alternative route. The diversion adds about 500m to the original route – up to 9.1km (5.6miles), but the overall ascent/descent remains the same. It also adds some nice views, an extra bit of woodland and passes a nice cafe and a pub!

Either route is acceptable.
